Dental Implants
Dental Implants are a long-term, versatile solution for missing teeth. They can be used to replace anything from a single tooth to the full arch. Implants are strong and durable –they are fitted directly into the jaw and will support a crown, bridge or denture in the same way that a root holds the natural tooth in place.
What happens once I’ve decided to go ahead with dental implants?
A thorough assessment is always carried out to assess suitability but, in the majority of cases, dental implants are suitable for anyone with healthy gums and jawbone. The process is carried out over a number of visits. During the initial stage a titanium ‘root’ is placed into the jaw. Once this has fused to the jawbone, an impression is taken and a bespoke replacement tooth is created to blend with the shape and colour of the surrounding teeth for a natural look. During your next visit the replacement tooth is permanently fixed to the ‘root’. The whole process can take a number of months but once in place the implant has a long lifespan.
Are dental implants right for me?
Dental implants are ideal for anyone who is looking to replace a missing tooth – or teeth – with an alternative that looks, feels and functions just like a natural tooth. Whilst denture-wearers have to be careful with some of the food they eat, implants offer far greater stability which means no food is off limits.
